Beschreibung

In this report, the reasons behind why some Cummins Turbo Technologies wastegate turbochargers wastegate settings are out-of-spec upon second-checking are explored. Wastegate setting fall out is a known problem within Cummins Turbo Technologies and is investigated with reference to the manufacturing methods used at Cummins Turbo Technologies. In depth research looks at the current trends in the automotive industry and why turbochargers are an essential part of today's internal combustion engines. The research is broken down into how the wastegate system works and the effects it has on the performance of the turbocharger. The main factors that could be causing the problem are looked at and analysed in detail including the use of calculations and testing to verify the findings upon which a series of conceptual solutions are proposed for the elimination of the problem. Concepts are analysed on feasibility and the best solution is implemented and tested in CTT manufacturing on a sample of turbochargers.
