Over the centuries, Amsterdam's docks have grown far beyond the boundaries of the capital. Today's port – Europe's fourth-largest – extends from the Oranjesluizen locks to past the locks complex at IJmuiden. Numerous port activities take place along a length of 35 km – good for the economy and for employment.
There is no better way to depict the port's growth and flourishing than from the air. Harbour cranes, shipping, port basins, industrial estates, distribution centres, terminals but of course also the green areas of the port and the infrastructure. Equally impressive are the aerial photographs in this book of Schiphol Airport and of the historic hotspots where it all began: around Amstel, Damrak and the IJ river.
We wish you a pleasant flight and happy viewing and reading.
